About Heart Sessions

Hello all. This blog is intended to honor the group meditations initiated by Tom Sawyer, now carried on by friends of his since his passing. Being physically spread out as we are we have agreed to sit down in our own homes at the same clock time, 9pm EST on Sunday nights. We sit for at least 20 minutes, although sitting for longer periods is no problem if you so choose.


There is no specified technique for these meditations. Precisely prescribed actions sometimes become unauthentic and what is meaningful for one person may not be for another. So if you choose to assist you may use a favored technique or listen within, apply self-honesty, and allow growth. There is no political or economic agenda involved. There are no dues or dogma. The essential point is an honest willingness to help.


Each week there is a suggested focus as posted on this blog. We previously had been using an email list but now, through the kind assistance and generous guidance of Barbara Whitfield and Donald Brennan, we have the pleasure of this blog forum. For Sunday April 19th, 2026

Hello to all once again. A two year old child has no concept of there being consequences for its actions. It responds to its own impulses in innocence. Humanity at large is no longer in the innocent stage. We know we're burning Mother Earth's skin with our chemical pollutants, our electronics, and our attitudes.
 
April 22nd, celebrated as Earth Day, is approaching. Let's do something for our physical and spiritual Mother, who gives us our bodies, our sustenance, and our opportunities to love.

May we sit this evening in loving embrace of The Big Blue Marble, our Mother Earth, the only home our bodies know.

Sunday, April 12

For Sunday April 12th, 2026

Hello, wonderful people. J. Krishnamurti tells us that repeating a mantra to quiet the mind doesn't really work. The repetition of a mantra, as beautiful as it may be, is more a matter of not letting the mind get a word in. So a part of your mind is quiet while another part is forcing that quietness.
 
Two things; it's not a truly quiet mind because part of it is working and; it removes the self-awareness of seeing how our mind works. A truly quiet mind watches the chatter without engaging in it, as if watching from afar and without judgement.

May we try once again this evening to attain a quiet mind which simply observes. We don't recall the difficulties of learning to walk and talk as children, we simply kept trying naturally. Let's use that same innocent beauty tonight.

For Sunday March 6th, 2026

Hello all, we may be asked to do hard things as this spiritual transition progresses. Think of the effort involved in personal transitions, relationships ending, working to control weight gain, overcoming addictions, all of which have very difficult moments. Now expand that to an entire planet changing its orientation from material to spiritual.

It's big, and we all have a part to play in it. No matter how large or small your part may appear to you, it's still essential in completing the whole.

May we sit this evening pondering Tom Sawyer's essential guidance – "keep breathing and be willing."
