About Heart Sessions

Hello all. This blog is intended to honor the group meditations initiated by Tom Sawyer, now carried on by friends of his since his passing. Being physically spread out as we are we have agreed to sit down in our own homes at the same clock time, 9pm EST on Sunday nights. We sit for at least 20 minutes, although sitting for longer periods is no problem if you so choose.

There is no specified technique for these meditations. Precisely prescribed actions sometimes become unauthentic and what is meaningful for one person may not be for another. So if you choose to assist you may use a favored technique or listen within, apply self-honesty, and allow growth. There is no political or economic agenda involved. There are no dues or dogma. The essential point is an honest willingness to help.

Each week there is a suggested focus as posted on this blog. We previously had been using an email list but now, through the kind assistance and generous guidance of Barbara Whitfield and Donald Brennan, we have the pleasure of this blog forum. Loving thanks to you both. Comments may be left by clicking the "Leave Comments Here" link below each post.

For Sunday May 25th, 2025

Hello, springtime people. As we strive to bring a new flowering of spirituality to the world it's well to be reminded of the basics. In our human psychology we tend to see the differences between ourselves and others. We would do well to view these differences with open curiosity, rather than judgmentally.

Doing so would open the door to seeing others in terms of harmony. Who do we harmonize with in a heart-felt way, regardless of differences in physicality or opinions.

May we sit this evening aware of our hearts. Where can we find harmony? How can we find connection? For if spirituality is to flower, it has to come from within.

Bless you all,

Richard

For Sunday May 18th, 2025

Hello, good people. We are told "to trust in the Divine, even when the path is unseen, is the purest form of faith" but the fun part is – the path is always unseen – as it needs to be. If we clearly saw every step before us the path would only be an intellectual exercise. It is in surrendering the heart, releasing fears and biases, that we are clear enough for guidance to come.

If we can truly do that, we will walk in grace.

Let us sit this evening in all the grace we can afford.

Bless you all,

Richard

An additional comment for Sunday May 11th, 2025 - Mother's Day

From: Tessa Thomas who lives in Britain
Subject: Re: For Sunday May 11th, 2025 - Mother's Day

"Hi Richard.

It's not mother's day here but I take the sentiments to heart and thank you anyway.

On an aside. May I add my own words re mothers.

Here as in other countries in Europe,  we have big celebrations going on.

It's 80 yrs since VE Day. 'Victory in Europe'...  the celebration of the defeat by Allied forces against the tyranny of Fascism/ Hitler.

On your mothers day, I hope we can combine the two.  I pray we can remember the Mothers on all sides, who also made the ultimate sacrifice. The love and life of their sons, who never made it back home.

Thank you 🙏

Tessa"

Hello to all. I've racked my limited brain trying to come up with something appropriate for Mother's Day, and come up with nothing.

So, I'm stealing this from my friend Yvonne Sneeden. I promise to ask for permission to share it the next time I see her.  😄

"Happy Mother's Day to the real-life heroes who risked their own life with pain and wonder to bring to earth a soul who left the peace of heaven and chose You as their first home. You gave of your body, your time, your dreams, to raise a soul with love and courage through sleepless nights and selfless days, the thousand silent sacrifices no one sees but God and you still show love every single day. You carried an eternal miracle worthy of it all."

May a mother's love be with you all,

Richard

An apology for Sunday May 4th, 2025

Hello, hopefully forgiving people. I forgot. I have a lot of things I can blame it on, but I'm the one who forgot. So I apologize.

If you're interested; my son had scheduling difficulties with the kids; my performance partner and I have three new shows to do on Friday, a Bookfest performance on Saturday, which she runs; and - she broke her foot yesterday.

It ain't pretty.

But still, I'm the thick-headed one who forgot. I'm sorry, but I'll get right back to it again. Human foibles have to kick in sometimes, right?

Bless you all - and keep on trying,

Richard
